Independent Trailer Suspension

Independent trailer suspension is a system where each wheel on an axle is attached to the trailer's frame independently. This means the movement of one wheel (e.g., hitting a pothole) does not directly affect the opposite wheel. This contrasts with a traditional solid (or beam) axle suspension, where both wheels are connected by a rigid beam, so a bump on one side lifts and affects the other.

While there are different designs, the most common type of ITS uses a system of A-arms (or wishbones) and a torsion spring or coil-over shock system.

This design allows each wheel to articulate individually over uneven terrain.

5. Reduced Weight and Maintenance, Less Wear and Tear: ITS systems are typically lighter than an equivalent solid axle with leaf springs. There are also no leaf springs to sag or break, and no need to worry about axle wrap.
